Celebrating the History and Growth of Golf

The Brief: Design Create a type specimen card deck to promote a typeface. The goal is to show off the typeface's greatest qualities including sizes, weights, legibility, readability, and how it works in headlines and paragraphs.

This was my first project at SCAD in fall of 2021. It was an opportunity to combine what I was learning with one of my passions: teaching others about my favorite sport. I broke the deck down into the four majors and used each card to talk about different components of the game and font:

Ace cards: A pictorial image of the tournament logo and course it's played on

2: History of the font Baskerville and tournament

3: The Victors - The first champion vs most recent with the prizes and money they won

4: A fun fact about the tournament

5: A fun fact about the tournament

6: The fundamentals of the golf swing: Grip, Aim, Stance, Posture

7: A quote from a legend of the game

8: Old school equipment and technology

9: Fashion and how it's changed over the years

10: Famous golf course architects

J: A story from the tournament

Q: An important element of the history of the tournament

K: A story from the tournament

Jokers: The two joker cards are tennis players because I get mistaken all the time for being a tennis player.
